1870. Dorking High Street. Another one of Chaplin's wonderful images of the town in 1870. A delivery cart stands outside The Red Lion Hotel (dem.1964) and a 'ghostly' girl peers into the camera. The long exposure time needed for the glass-plate negative meant that the girl was only partly recorded on film before she hid in the shop doorway.
